This poor thing has been there since 2001 and the last time this was driven was in 2013, at least that’s when the state inspection sticker expired. I’ve never seen it being driven either.

Me too. It needs a wash really bad. And probably new oil, tires, battery etc. If the damn owner would at least sell it.

Sometimes I think I want a Boxster. Do I want a Boxster? How hard are they to maintain?

I just recently started to like their very 2000s like styling. I have absolutely no idea about maintenence on these but it’s mid engined.

Sad. At least it is covered... under that dust it appears to be in much better shape than the average 986 that I see on the road around here.

At least those ones are driven like they are intended to be and don’t have to rot away covered in dust.

If you take care of the IMS bearing, I don't think they're bad. The price is certainly getting right for them. A non-S can be had for around $10k pretty easily.

I found a 2001 S 6-speed for $4700....

If the engine is still in running condition, that’s a great price. I would assume that price is for a shell though.

Well, it says runs well, needs driver seat recovered and some paint work.

Ironically, with those model years (same with 911) the higher mileage engines are usually clear of IMS defects. You may still need to deal with the rear main seal and the air/oil separator (listed as an issue in the ad), but they're not bad. Assuming you have either the skills or a few grand to fix the stated issues, it looks like it might be a lot of cheap fun.

So Boxster S, or 944....
